- June 2026 Birmingham recorded a record-breaking 1,303,831 passengers in May 2026, up 3.2% year-on-year, its busiest-ever May. (source)
- 23 March 2026 BHX reported its busiest February ever with over 840,000 passengers (up 2.7% year-on-year) and described a "strong start to 2026." (source)
- 25 February 2026 New routes and extra flights helped Birmingham land a record year for 2025, handling 13.65 million passengers to the busiest in its history, including its busiest-ever December. (source)
Construction / terminal works / expansion
- 2026 Birmingham confirmed roughly £300m of investment over four years (about £75m a year to 2029), covering new security areas, lounges, retail and hospitality, and terminal refurbishment, targeting around 18 million passengers by 2033. (source)
- 11 November 2025 Birmingham appointed Arup to lead a new airport masterplan on the back of its £300m upgrade commitment. (source)
- 2026 A further security expansion programme adds two new search areas, lifting peak throughput from 3,000 to 3,600 passengers per hour; construction is phased (much of it overnight) to limit disruption. (source)
Security rule changes
- July 2026 With its next-generation CT scanners fully rolled out across the central search area, Birmingham lifted the 100ml limit: passengers can now carry liquid containers up to 2 litres, and liquids and laptops can stay inside hand luggage. (source)
- 2026 Birmingham is named among the UK airports (with Heathrow and Edinburgh) that have relaxed the 100ml rule thanks to CT scanning. (source)

- Summer 2026 Ryanair based a ninth aircraft at Birmingham for summer 2026, adding around 424,000 extra seats and five new routes: Agadir, Rome Fiumicino, Marrakesh, Tirana and Warsaw Modlin. (source)

Parking, drop-off or fare price changes
- 2026 Birmingham's Premium Set Down (drop-off nearest the terminal) rose from £6 to £7 for up to 15 minutes. Uniquely among major UK airports, BHX still offers free drop-off to up to 10 minutes free at the Drop and Go zone, then £5 for 10-15 minutes and £6 for 15-20 minutes. (source)
